CYCLE OF EXPECTATION

Cycle of Expectation describes the introduction of an expectation, and navigating when experiencing that expectation concludes.

The more feelings associated with this experience, the more 'depression' you are likely to feel. Identify 'depression' as a function of your Cycle of Expectation, resetting to the baseline state before that expectation was introduced.

BASELINE STATE OF EXPECTATIONS

Our baseline state of expectations includes what we need for survival.

  • WATER

  • FOOD

  • SHELTER

  • SLEEP

  • SOCIAL CONNECTION

  • SAFETY AND SECURITY

EXPANSION (INTRODUCTION OF AN EXPECTATION)

Expansion describes the impact and regularity of the expectation introduced.

  • LOVE

  • EXERCISE / LACK OF EXERCISE

  • SWEETS

  • COFFEE

  • SMOKING

  • POWER

  • MONEY

  • etc

DEPRESSION

When the expectation is no longer being satisfied, depression is the function of resetting your Cycle of Expectation back to your baseline state of expectations. The time needed to process this depression varies from expectation to expectation.

What you can do to accelerate the depression state.

  • EXERCISE IGNITES PROGRESS / STAY ACTIVE

  • BALANCE YOUR DIET

  • REST

  • CULTIVATE INTERESTS / HOBBIES

  • LIMIT SOCIAL ISOLATION

  • SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP

The Cycle of Expectation helps us understand our responses to the introduction and exit of various expectations. Depression, as a function, is a recalibration mechanism back to the baseline expectations. Also, realizing you have the power to accelerate the depression —through exercise, balanced diet, rest, etc —empowers you to navigate the inevitable cycles of expectations.
